One of my best friends gave me this pattern for Christmas- a pattern I have had my eye on for a long time! When I make Lalylala's patterns, I usually get the suggested yarns but I decided to take artistic liberties with Roco (I also wanted to work through my ever-growing yarn stash)...

His shawl is supposed to be red but I wanted to pay homage to my friend, whose favorite color is purple, as a symbolic "thank you" for the gift!

I think he looks rather cute with his sparkly purple shawl- quite the fashionista! And how adorable is it that his mask comes off?

The owl on the left is the very first amigurumi I ever made, back in 2014, when I was still learning how to crochet. And now, in 2021, I recreated the same pattern (found here), using the same yarn (Caron), crochet hook (Clover), safety eyes, and stuffing.

I remember the 2014 owl took me forever and I struggled my way through it because it was the first time I was changing colors.

This was probably the most challenging project I have ever worked on! It was also full of mishaps...

I had to learn new stitches and techniques so there was a lot of frogging and reworking rounds along the way. I also bought the wrong kind of aluminum wire at first and it was not super pliable...and then I ran out of yarn and had to wait a week for the replacement yarn to arrive in the mail. But that's not all- I also got some super glue and hot glue on my fingers when I was trying to figure out the best way to attach the mask strings. 

But it was so worth it!

His mittens are absolutely perfect! He is the first human I've crocheted and I am sure I will create some other friends for him in the future!

Fun fact: I used real make up for his rosy cheeks!
